Oxytocin (Cys-Tyr-Ile-Gln-Asn-Cys-Pro-Leu-Gly-NH2) is a cyclic nonapeptide neurohormone synthesised in the hypothalamic paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei. It is used extensively as a research tool compound for studying oxytocin receptor (OXTR) pharmacology, HPA axis interactions, social behaviour neuroscience, stress responses, and uterine smooth muscle physiology in preclinical models.
