PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a cyclic heptapeptide melanocortin receptor agonist that activates MC3R and MC4R subtypes in the CNS. Unlike earlier melanocortin agonists, PT-141 lacks the blood pressure effects associated with MC1R activation on peripheral vasculature, making it a more selective tool for studying central melanocortin pathway contributions to arousal and reward signalling in preclinical neuroscience models.
