Description
SS-31 (Szeto-Schiller peptide 31; Elamipretide; D-Arg-2′6′-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2) is an aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide that selectively accumulates in the inner mitochondrial membrane where it interacts with cardiolipin, stabilising its conformation and protecting respiratory chain complexes from oxidative damage. Research applications involve studying mitochondrial membrane integrity, Complex I-IV activity, and ATP production in models of oxidative stress and metabolic disease.
